Blogging for Site, Social, and Search

Alec Tefertiller - Friday, January 20, 2012

At Acumen, we prescribe a Site, Social, Search approach to your online presence. One easy addition to your web presence that helps improve the quality of all three at once is a blog. Kill three birds with one stone! What's so great about blogging?

  • Site: You fill your website with great information about your products, services, mission, vision, staff, etc. However, it's very static. A blog instantly transforms your site into a very dynamic, living organism. Your site now grows with each new blog post, and encourages regular, repeat visits, rather than just glances when someone is exploring your business.
  • Social: Blogging was perhaps the first social medium. Before there was Myspace and Facebook, their was Livejournal. A good blog encourages interaction, and it helps your followers to get to know you better. You can share your thoughts and experiences, which helps build relationships.
  • Search: The key to increasing your search rankings is providing a consistent sampling of relevant content. A blog is just that. It's an ongoing and growing farm of relevant keywords and established content. It might be the easiest way to increase your site's content in a way that has real, lasting, and genuine search engine results.

Blogging is not just for nerds and couponers, even though it seems they are the only ones who have time to blog. The key is to establish consistency. No, you're not going to dive head first into blogging and expect to post something every day. It's best to start slow. How about once a month? When you have that down, post something once every two weeks. Increase as needed. The trick is to do it consistently, and see what it does for your web presence.
